TrumpetFest is a 1-week chamber music seminar designed to launch undergraduate and graduate trumpet players into a professionally paced festival performance experience. TrumpetFest participants refine their synergy and artistry while immersed in the culture of one of Italy’s most iconic and historic medieval cities.

A Celebrated Festival Tradition
A cornerstone of Orvieto Musica, TrumpetFest continues to flourish under the direction of Dr. Amy Gilreath, Artist-in-Residence at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Revered for its artistic focus and esprit de corps, the program opens each season with a beloved tradition: the TrumpetFest Fanfare, performed from the historic balcony of the Piazza della Repubblica, ceremoniously announcing the festival’s arrival within Orvieto’s ancient walls.
Over the years, TrumpetFest artists have performed in some of the city’s most evocative venues, including the Sala Expo and the historic Teatro Mancinelli. The curriculum balances trumpet ensemble repertoire with collaborative projects alongside vocalists, string players, and pianists—creating a dynamic space where chamber artistry is both cultivated and celebrated. Each season also features the premiere of a new work, composed in partnership with Orvieto Musica’s Composer-in-Residence.
Daily masterclasses are led by distinguished faculty and guest clinicians. Previous collaborators have included artist-teachers from Furman University, Jacksonville State University, Reinhardt University, the University of Arkansas, Wright State University, and the “O. Vecchi–A. Tonelli” Institute in Modena.
Participation is open to individual trumpeters, pre-formed ensembles, and university-affiliated studios.

Festival Details
What’s Included?
Your festival fee provides a one-week residency in Orvieto designed to support both your artistry and your well-being. Every element—from instruction to housing—has been thoughtfully arranged so you can focus fully on music, culture, and connection.
Artistic Work and Guidance:
At the heart of the residency is music. Participants receive masterclasses and specialized coachings with faculty, together with Italian language sessions. All Institute classes, including the Communication Group studio course, are part of the curriculum.
Housing and Meals:
Participants are housed in centrally located, double-occupancy apartments, providing a comfortable base within walking distance of rehearsal and performance spaces. Each day begins with breakfast at a local caffè, with additional meals arranged through neighborhood restaurants.
Travel and Shared Experiences:
Private coach transfer provided from Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) to Orvieto at the start of the program (return trip not included for TrumpetFest). Group travel is also arranged for festival activities, including an excursion to Lago Bolsena—Europe’s largest volcanic lake.
Spaces and Materials for Your Work:
Residency includes access to rehearsal spaces, the Orvieto Musica library, and wireless internet. All required music licensing fees are covered by the festival.
Support in Daily Life:
Health, safety, and cleaning support are provided throughout the stay. City tax and key deposit are included. Participants also enjoy complimentary admission to all Orvieto Musica concerts and events, along with discounts at partner shops in the city.
Professional Recordings:
All festival performances are recorded. High-definition video of individual concerts are available on request, and access to the Orvieto Musica archive is included.

Applications for the 2026 Season are due by December 31, 2025
Applicants joining as part of their professor’s university or conservatory trumpet studio do not need to upload supporting materials. Independent applicants must provide two contrasting works (see Recording Guidelines below), a curriculum vitae or résumé, and a letter of recommendation.
Recording Guidelines: Submit two contrasting works totaling no more than 15 minutes. While there are no required pieces, we encourage a variety of styles. Recordings should be uploaded to YouTube (unlisted or public), with one or two links included in the application.
What’s Next?
Upon acceptance into the program, your deposit and Festival Registration Form must be submitted by Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Your final balance will be due by Sunday, March 1, 2026.
An Orvieto Musica chartered bus will transport you from Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) to the hilltop town of Orvieto, where you will be welcomed by your apartment hosts. To ensure you can join this transfer, please arrange to arrive at FCO no later than 11:30 AM CET on June 14. Return transportation to Rome at the conclusion of the festival is not included for TrumpetFest.
