The Trumpet Fest is an intensive one-week chamber music experience for undergraduate and graduate musicians ready to perform, collaborate, and grow within the pace of an international festival.

A Celebrated Festival Tradition
A cornerstone of Orvieto Musica, TrumpetFest continues to flourish under the direction of Dr. Amy Gilreath, Artist-in-Residence at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Revered for its artistic focus and esprit de corps, the program opens each season with a beloved tradition: the Trumpet Fest Fanfare, performed from the historic balcony of the Piazza della Repubblica, ceremoniously announcing the festival’s arrival within Orvieto’s ancient walls.
Over the years, TrumpetFest artists have performed in some of the city’s most evocative venues, including the Sala Expo and the historic Teatro Mancinelli. The curriculum balances trumpet ensemble repertoire with collaborative projects alongside vocalists, string players, and pianists—creating a dynamic space where chamber artistry is both cultivated and celebrated. Each season also features the premiere of a new work, composed in partnership with Orvieto Musica’s Composer-in-Residence.
Daily masterclasses are led by distinguished faculty and guest clinicians. Previous collaborators have included artist-teachers from Furman University, Jacksonville State University, Reinhardt University, the University of Arkansas, Wright State University, and the “O. Vecchi–A. Tonelli” Institute in Modena.
Participation is open to individual trumpeters, pre-formed ensembles, and university-affiliated studios.
Festival Details
What’s Included?
Your festival fee provides a one-week residency in Orvieto, with the essential elements of daily and artistic life thoughtfully arranged. The intention is simple: less time managing logistics, more time for music, discovery, and the people with whom you will create it.
Artistic Work and Guidance
Music is at the center of the residency. Participants receive masterclasses, specialized coaching sessions with faculty, an Italian language session and a tour to Lago Bolsena—all are part of the curriculum.
Living in Orvieto
Participants live in centrally located, double-occupancy apartments within walking distance of rehearsals, performances, cafés, and the historic center. Each day begins with breakfast at a local caffè, with additional meals arranged through neighborhood restaurants.
Arrival and Shared Experiences
Private coach transportation connects Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) with Orvieto at the beginning and an optional return trip at the end of the residency. Festival transportation is also arranged for a day at Lago di Bolsena, one of Europe’s iconic volcanic lakes.
The Practical Details
Apartments receive weekly professional cleaning. The city tax and key deposits are included in the festival fee. Local medical care is readily available should it be needed. Participants receive complimentary admission to Orvieto Musica concerts and events, along with selected discounts from partner businesses throughout the city.
Professional Recordings
Festival performances are professionally captured in stereo audio and high-definition video. Participants receive access to the Orvieto Musica recording archive, with festival recordings made available within 90 days of the close of the season—and often sooner. Professional photos are also available within 7 days after the festival.

Airfare to and from Italy is not included in the festival fee.

Family, friends, and partners are warmly invited to join you in Orvieto for the Festival. Guest arrangements are available and include accommodation, meals and scheduled airport transfers from Rome.

Guest Faculty
We welcome distinguished artist-faculty to join TrumpetFest—whether accompanying a university studio or participating independently. Those interested in joining the teaching roster are invited to complete the Guest Faculty Registration Form.
BRING YOUR ARTISTRY TO ORVIETO
We invite you to apply for the 2027 Season by December 31. There is no application fee.
Submit Your Free Application
Applicants joining as part of their professor’s university or conservatory trumpet studio do not need to upload supporting materials. Independent applicants must provide two contrasting works (see Recording Guidelines below), a curriculum vitae or résumé, and a letter of recommendation.
Recording Guidelines: Submit two contrasting works totaling no more than 15 minutes. There are no required pieces, but we encourage variety in style. Recordings should be uploaded to YouTube as unlisted or public. You may include one or two links in your application.
What’s Next?
Once accepted, please secure your place by submitting your Festival Registration Form and deposit by January 21. The remaining balance is due by March 15.
On June 13, Orvieto Musica’s chartered bus will meet participants at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) for the journey to Orvieto. Please plan to arrive at FCO no later than 11:30 AM CET. On arrival in Orvieto, you will be welcomed by your apartment hosts and introduced to the city that will be home for the next three weeks.
For your return please book departing flights no earlier than 1:00 PM CET to allow time to take the earliest trains or the bus from Orvieto to Rome FCO.
