Reminders:

  • Passport: Please be sure this is up-to-date and valid.
  • OM Bus: If you have opted for group transportation, the bus will depart for Orvieto on 16 and 23 June at 12:30 PM.

Packing for OM24

Essential Items. Please remember to ensure your passport is up-to-date and valid for your summer travels. Additionally, be prepared to exchange currency and bring other forms of payment as you travel abroad. Additionally, don’t forget essentials such as your passport, ATM cards, concert attire, and comfortable everyday clothing and shoes. Orvieto experiences high foot traffic, so it’s essential to prioritize comfort.

Prepare Ahead. Please remember to pack sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and anti-itch cream in case you are bitten. Italy has a climate that may differ significantly from what many of us are accustomed to in the States, so please pack accordingly with these items in mind.

Travel Considerations. It’s unlikely that you will have a microwave in your room, so don’t bring food to cook. Electronics will require a travel adapter. You may want to arrange an international roaming plan for your phone. There are two main cafes with internet access, as well as the music school and your apartments.

Concert Attire. Concert black attire is required for all large-ensemble OM events. For other performances, we encourage a solid color on top and black bottoms. Individuals may also choose to wear colorful dresses. In churches, covered-toe shoes are preferred, and it is essential to cover your shoulders. If you have sleeveless dresses or shirts, please bring a light shawl or jacket.

Comfort. Comfortable shoes are essential for walking on the paved city roads. Temperatures at night can be cooler, so participants will want a wrap or sweater for the evenings during the first week. By week three, it will be very hot, and many places do not have air conditioning. While beautiful stone walls provide some shade, the heat can still be intense. A hat is a great idea, and both suncream and mosquito spray are a must.

For more details on packing, please visit our How to Pack guide.

Exchanging Currency

We strongly recommend exchanging USD for Euros before departing the United States. Exchange rates tend to be less favorable once you’re overseas. While exchanging currency at the airport may seem convenient, the rates there are often unfavorable, resulting in fewer Euros for your USD.

Alternatively, you can use ATMs in Orvieto to withdraw Euros. However, it’s advisable to have some Euros on hand upon arrival in Italy to cover immediate expenses.

Additionally, it’s wise to carry some USD cash for emergencies. Generally, the best exchange rates are obtained by withdrawing directly from ATM machines. If you plan to use your bank card to withdraw Euros from ATMs in Orvieto, ensure that your PIN number is 4-digits.

Most restaurants, hotels, and banks in Orvieto accept American Express, Diner’s Club, Visa, and Mastercard.

However, please note that many train stations and stores in smaller towns may accept only cash (EURO).

Departing Italy

Many Orvieto Musica participants opt to extend their stay in Italy or Europe after the festival concludes. Therefore, Orvieto Musica does not officially organize transportation from Orvieto to Fiumicino at the end of the festival. However, optional transport can be arranged for an additional fee.

If you plan to travel directly from Orvieto to Fiumicino for your flight home, we recommend scheduling your departure from Fiumicino no earlier than noon on your departure day. Trains from central Rome to the airport begin running daily at 7:00 A.M.

Keep in mind that taking a taxi to the airport can be costly, and hotels near the airport are often expensive.
