Essential Items for a Successful Festival Stay
Essential Travel & Identification Documents
Passport:
Must be valid for at least six months after your planned return date.
Visa Documentation:
If you are traveling on a student or visitor visa, bring your original visa documents, acceptance letter, and any supporting paperwork required by your host country’s border control.
Travel Insurance Information:
If purchased, keep a printed copy and emergency contact numbers.
Flight Itinerary:
Keep both printed and digital copies for easy access.
Backups of Key Documents:
Print or securely store copies of your passport, visa, insurance, and credit cards in case of loss. Store digital copies in a secure cloud folder that you can access from your phone in case luggage is lost.
Instruments & Music Materials
Instrument(s):
Ensure it is in good condition and ready for travel. Pack extra strings, reeds, or other consumables specific to your instrument—these may be difficult to source locally.
Assigned Music Scores:
Bring all music assigned in advance, plus any personal pieces you may wish to play.
Music Stand:
A lightweight, collapsible stand for practice and rehearsals.
Marking Tools:
Pencils, erasers, and highlighters for rehearsal notes.
Metronome/Tuner:
If you regularly use these tools during practice.
Clothing
Sacred Concert Attire:
All-black outfit for performances in sacred spaces (closed-toe shoes, covered shoulders).
Other Concert Attire:
Colored tops with black pants, or colored dresses (no sundresses). Ensembles may coordinate colors or wear OM T-shirts (all members matching). Pants must be full-length. Choose breathable fabrics suitable for warm venues.
Concert Shoes:
Black shoes for all performances.
Comfortable Walking Shoes:
Essential for navigating Orvieto’s cobblestone streets.
Daytime Casual Wear:
Light, breathable clothing for rehearsals and daily activities. Temperatures may reach 85–95°F (29–35°C) with humidity; bring a light sweater for cooler evenings. Linen is recommended.
Portable Fans:
Pack a small, portable personal fan—battery-powered or hand-held—as air conditioning is limited in many buildings.
Personal Care & Hygiene
Swimwear:
For the Lake Bolsena trip.
Toiletries:
Travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.
Sunscreen:
High SPF for summer sun protection.
Personal Medications:
Bring enough for the full trip plus copies of prescriptions.
Insect Repellent:
Useful for outdoor rehearsals or evenings.
Small First Aid Kit:
Band-aids, blister care, and pain relievers.
Laundry Supplies:
Consider packing travel-sized laundry detergent for hand-washing clothes, as dryers are rare in Italy. Some apartments will even be equipped with a small washing machine.
Technology
Phone & Charger:
Include Type C or F plug adapters for Italy. One may not be enough, consider two.
Portable Power Bank:
For charging on the go.
Digital Music Devices:
iPad or sheet music apps, page-turning pedals, chargers, and spare stylus tips.
Camera:
Optional, for photography beyond your phone.
Power Strips:
A small travel power strip can be helpful—many rooms have limited outlets.
Leisure Items
Hat & Sunglasses:
For sun protection.
Light Jacket or Sweater:
For cooler evenings.
Reusable Water Bottle:
Stay hydrated throughout the day.
Journal/Notebook:
For personal notes or reflections.
Guidebook/Map:
You will receive a Festival Participant Guidebook in early June with maps and city details.
Rain Items:
Bring a small folding umbrella or lightweight rain jacket for occasional summer showers.
Currency & Payments
We recommend exchanging your local currency for Euros before departing your home country for the best rates. Avoid airport exchanges if possible.
Have Some Euros on Arrival:
For meals, transportation, and small purchases. Bring a mix of small and large denominations—some cafes and shops will not break large bills.
Use ATMs for Best Rates:
PIN must be 4 digits; notify your bank before travel. Orvieto Rates are much better than those at airports.
Credit Cards:
Widely accepted in restaurants and hotels; smaller shops may be cash-only.
Carry Small Bills:
For tips, coffee, and market purchases.
