As Collegewide Music Department Chair and Professor of Music at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), Dr. Lisa Eckstein has demonstrated exceptional leadership and artistic vision that aligns with Orvieto Musica’s mission.

Her transformative work with the NOVA Alexandria Band showcases her ability to build and nurture musical excellence. Under her leadership, this 80-member ensemble has established meaningful partnerships with prestigious institutions, including the George Mason University Wind Symphony, and has attracted collaborations with acclaimed professional musicians. Her strategic initiative in commissioning new works from both established and emerging composers reflects her commitment to advancing the field of band music and aligns with Orvieto Musica’s focus on chamber music and in particular brass music.

Dr. Eckstein’s academic credentials are impressive, holding degrees from three renowned institutions: a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from George Mason University, and music education degrees from both Temple University and Indiana University. Her expertise spans conducting, music theory, and music appreciation, bringing a comprehensive understanding of both performance and pedagogical aspects of music education.

Her recent recognition with the NOVA Teacher Recognition Award (2023), bestowed by her peers, speaks to her collaborative leadership style and ability to inspire excellence in others. As an experienced former board member of the National Concert Band of America and an active adjudicator and guest conductor/clinician, Dr. Eckstein brings valuable governance experience and an extensive professional network. Dr. Eckstein’s brings a proven track record in program development, community engagement, artistic leadership and experience as a board member in a prominent arts organization.
