Celebrating Music, Culture, and Connection in the Heart of Umbria

A Legacy of Excellence

Since its founding in 1993, the Orvieto Musica has built a distinguished legacy as one of the most intimate and inspired chamber music gatherings in the world. Over the past decade, it has taken the stage in exquisite venues across Umbria, offering concerts that captivate appreciative audiences and ignite artistic exchange. The festival’s extraordinary surroundings—steeped in natural beauty, historic charm, and artistic heritage—create an environment where excellence is not merely encouraged, but inevitable.

Here, faculty and participants alike discover what is rarely possible in the rush of professional life: the space and time to explore artistry in its purest form. Through daily master classes, collaborations with guest artists, and exchanges with international peers, musicians deepen technical mastery, expand interpretive insight, and refine their expressive voice.

Spanning three intensive weeks, Orvieto Musica embraces the full richness of Italian culture from the 12th to the 21st century. Performances unfold against a backdrop of medieval architecture, Renaissance art, and vibrant contemporary life. Festival experiences extend beyond the concert hall, with opportunities to explore Orvieto’s underground caves, nearby coastal retreats, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and to engage in Italian language instruction, Quantum Sound Therapy, and other cultural offerings that make the festival truly unforgettable.

In addition to its home in Orvieto, the festival has brought music to audiences throughout Umbria—in Bagnoregio, Calenzano, Capodimonte, Lubriano, Monteleone, Porano, Porretta Terme, Siena, and Urbino—as well as to stages across the United States.

Cultural Immersion

World-Class Faculty

The festival’s acclaimed faculty are at the heart of its success, coaching participants daily and performing alongside them in a spirit of mentorship and artistic partnership. Their affiliations span the world’s most prestigious institutions and ensembles, including the Metropolitan Opera, Bulgarian State Opera, Reina Sofía School of Music (Spain), Paris Conservatoire, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Italy), Conservatorio di Mantova (Italy), Conservatoire de Musique de Genève (Switzerland), London Symphony Orchestra, American Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, Florida State University, George Mason University, Hartt School of Music, Indiana University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Mannes School of Music, McGill University (Canada), Spoleto Festival (Italy), American Institute of Musical Studies (Austria), Dallas Brass, Cassatt String Quartet, Ensemble Fidelio, Stiletto Brass Quintet, Staatsoper Hannover, and Saarländisches Staatstheater, among others.

In 2023, celebrated bassoonist Professor Kim Walker was appointed Artistic and Executive Director. With a decade of orchestral experience in Europe’s leading ensembles—including the London Symphony and RAI Torino—and appearances at major chamber music festivals such as Marlboro, Prades, and the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society, Walker brings both artistic depth and global vision. Her leadership follows the 30-year tenure of Nyela Basney, founder and conductor, whose vision shaped the festival from its earliest days.

As Orvieto Musica expands its faculty and deepens its international partnerships, it remains profoundly grateful to the donors, patrons, faculty, and alumni whose generosity and commitment sustain its mission.
